Joseph M. Hayes, M.D., is a board certified urologist who joined Jefferson Surgical Clinic in 1992. A native of New York, Dr. Hayes received a Bachelor of Science from Iona College in New Rochelle, New York, in 1975. He is a 1979 graduate of Georgetown University School of Medicine, and he completed a urology residency at George Washington University Hospital in 1985. Dr. Hayes was a transplantation/immunology research fellow and a clinical transplantation and renovascular surgery fellow at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He was a transplant immunology research fellow at the University of Minnesota and the University of Pittsburgh schools of medicine. He was a staff surgeon in the Department of Urology/Organ Transplant Center of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation from 1989 through 1992. Dr. Hayes founded the Carilion Transplant Center in Roanoke, Virginia, in 1992 and was its medical director until 1997. He is certified by the American Board of Urology.
