Molly Rutherford, M.D., FACC is a second-generation, board-certified cardiologist with additional certifications in internal medicine and nuclear cardiology who has practiced in Roanoke, Virginia since 2010. A Roanoke native, she’s a proud graduate of Virginia public schools, including the University of Virginia. Dr. Rutherford received her medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 2004, and completed her residency in Internal Medicine with a special focus on Women’s Health at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System in 2007. She also completed her Fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases at VCU in 2010. Dr. Rutherford enjoys taking care of many of her father’s former patients. She loves managing patient care for individuals with different cardiac needs, and has a keen interest in figuring out the best and least restrictive treatment plans that patients can understand. She loves complicated, challenging cases and welcomes referrals for complex medical issues. Dr. Rutherford has special interest in echocardiography and transesophageal echocardiography (TEE). She offers these tests at the Jefferson Surgical Interventional Center, helping many patients avoid unnecessary hospital admission. Echocardiography and stress tests are also available in the Jefferson Surgical office. When she’s not seeing patients, Dr. Rutherford enjoys spending time with her close-knit family and numerous friends. She has two sisters in Charlottesville and New York City, and visits them regularly. She also has two nephews, Henry and David. Recently, she began guitar lessons and loves getting outside as often as possible to enjoy the sights and sounds of Southwest Virginia.
