Overview
A mini facelift is a modified version of a full facelift. In this version, small incisions are made around the hairline to help lift the lower half of the face to correct sagging skin. Despite its name, a mini facelift is still a surgical procedure that can provide major improvements.
Benefits of a mini facelift include improvements to the cheeks, jawline and upper neck, but not the lower neck (like a full facelift). This is an ideal way to see profound changes and more youthful features in the mirror without going through additional surgery. The procedure is relatively inexpensive and highly customizable to each patient’s personal situation.
Who is a candidate?
Those looking to improve their appearance or stave off the effects of sagging skin may be good candidates for a mini facelift. Many men and women in their late forties opt for this procedure, especially if they have one or more of the following:
- Excess or sagging facial skin
- The formation of jowls or dropped cheeks
- Deep creases or folds between the lips and cheeks
- A double chin
- Loose skin around the neck
What to expect
This outpatient, minimally invasive surgical procedure generates fast, effective results by turning back the hands of time. It’s perfect for patients who would like to make improvements in their appearance without a long recovery.
As an invasive surgery, mini facelifts require either general or local anesthesia. Once you’re under anesthesia, small incisions around your ears and hairline are made. The surgeon will then manipulate the underlying tissues beneath your skin by lifting and then pulling them up. Then, the overlapping excess skin is removed. To complete the surgery, dissolvable sutures are used to close the incisions. Total recovery takes several weeks, but you are presentable after about a week.
