Procedure Overview
Vascular procedures involve the repair and reconstruction of damage to the vascular system of the body, including the arteries and veins. Vascular surgeons are experts in the medical and surgical treatment of all the bodies blood vessels with the exception of the heart. Depending on the condition and severity of disease, traditional vascular surgery can be performed in an outpatient setting or involve a hospital stay.
While traditional vascular surgery is more invasive and more surgical in nature, endovascular describes a minimally invasive approach commonly done through needle puncture and a sheath where repair is done from inside the blood vessels. Endovascular surgery is a technique that has created many possibilities for treating patients with serious conditions, typically related to peripheral arterial disease, aneurysms or carotid disease. Jefferson Surgical Clinic’s endovascular specialists use their extensive training and experience in this field to reach and repair the regions of the body in a minimally invasive way.
