Swanson completed his Residency in General Surgery at Carilion Clinic in Roanoke in 2013 and served as Chief Resident before heading to the Air Force as a general surgeon for four years. He then completed his fellowship in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Wake Forest School of Medicine. He holds a Doctor of Medicine from Eastern Virginia Medical School and is board certified by the American Board of Surgery, Board of Medicine for the Commonwealth of Virginia and the North Carolina Medical Board. He is a recipient of Carilion Medical Center’s Bruce D. Baird, M.D. Research Award and Robert E. Berry, M.D. Award.
Swanson is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and holds memberships with the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, American Military Surgeons of the United States, and the Society of Vascular Surgeons. He and his wife are the parents of seven children. Outside of his surgical practice, he enjoys family time, outdoor recreation and classical music.
