As of Sunday, December 18, 2022, Jefferson Surgical Clinic (JSC) physicians and staff are employed by Carilion Clinic.

JSC and Carilion share the same philosophy about the practice of medicine. As a patient, you’ll receive the same care and compassion from your surgical provider. Also, you’ll have access to additional resources including MyChart, a secure online health management tool, and easy connections to many specialty services through an electronic medical record system.

If you have questions regarding an upcoming appointment, you can continue to reach your care team at (540) 283-6000..

The patient portal is no longer active due to system changes. You are able to pay your account balance using the “Bill Pay” button below instead of calling. For account questions, you may still call (540) 283-6070.

Vascular Ultrasound Screening Services

The vascular screening services at Jefferson Surgical Center help identify potential serious conditions, such as strokes, aortic aneurysmal disease, carotid occlusive disease, and peripheral arterial disease.

These tests are especially valuable for individuals 55 years and older, as patients at that age are at increased risk for developing heart conditions.

There are different methods of screening for strokes, aneurysms and vascular diseases, but all three of the tests can be performed at the same time.

Types of Screening

  • Aortic Ultrasounds Screening: This is a safe and effective screening method to examine the abdomen for aortic aneurysms, which can occur without any noticeable signs or symptoms.
  • Carotid Artery Ultrasound Screening: This test is performed to screen for carotid occlusive disease (CAD). Results can identify narrowing in either the left or right carotid arteries.
  • Peripheral Arterial Disease Screening: The most common of the three heart conditions, peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is tested by evaluating the circulation of your lower extremities to find any potential blockages in the arteries. PAD symptoms are characterized by leg pain or wounds that won’t heal in the legs.

These important screenings altogether take only 30 minutes to complete at the Jefferson Surgical Clinic in Roanoke. Individual screenings cost $50, or you can have all three for $125.

See additional information on the importance of vascular screening, or view info about our other vascular services.

When you come in to screen for strokes, aneurisms, CAD and PAD you’ll be taken care of by one of our four vascular surgeons: Dr. James Drougas, Dr. James CallisDr. William D’Houbler, and Dr. Thomas Conlee.

Dr. Drougas was interviewed by Karen McNew from WSLS about his experience with a patient at Carilion Clinic. View the original interview.
